Day 7

Monday was a pretty relaxing day. I did wake up around 6:30 though, so I had to wait a little while for breakfast. Breakfast was just some bread and vegetables. I went to my room and watched one episode of a television show, and then went outside to play with the children who were not in school. Lunchtime rolled around, and I ate with Nikolay, Christina, and a couple other people. Soup was served first like at the beginning of most lunches. You know how I mentioned that one meat patty that I questioned as to being chicken, beef, or liver? There was another meat patty. For lunch, there was one that was much darker and looked exactly like a hamburger. Mayonnaise was on top of it. Though I am not a huge fan of mayonnaise, I still gave it a try. I asked Christina what the food was, mostly talking about something else that was new to me. She pointed at the meat patty and said, “liver.” There it was. I did it. I ate it, and it was not terrible, but I wouldn’t call it my favorite dish or even close. One of the ladies told me that I have not had the full Ukrainian experience without trying fat on bread. I kindly said maybe next time. They were just having fun, and maybe I will try it next time. I will never know if it tastes bad until I try it, right?
After lunch, I played with the children more outside. They love the hammock that I brought thanks to Erin. We played some inside because it was getting extremely windy, and it started to rain. When the kids came back, the girls who wanted to make a craft got what they asked for. We made a craft. We used paper to make two frogs with open mouths. It’s super cute! We drew the bodies and had it raining in the back because it was raining outside.
Then, it was dinner time. I love it when the cook serves potatoes. It’s one of my favorite foods. Sausage was served with ketchup with bread, cucumbers on the side, and fat once more. No; I didn’t try it. After dinner, Ruslana wanted to talk with the children, and right as she started, the power went out once more. The children soon went to get a shower, and it was my job to hold a flashlight in the room while they were all washing up and putting clothes on. It was an interesting experience to say the least. I played some with the children in the room, and then I went to take a shower while, in my bathroom, I still had light coming through the window. Right as I got out, the power turned back on. I guess I didn’t need to take it as soon as I thought. Snack was just a crescent roll with chocolate sauce on the inside. They were big, but I wanted two because the chocolate on the inside was some of the best tasting chocolate sauce I have ever tried. Fruits were served on the side, and I had some of those as well.
